Your First Visit to Our Houston Memorial Practice

You will be warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. Help is on its way!

We feel all of our patients are special to us and we care about them deeply. It is important to us that we convey this to a new patient coming into our Houston chiropractic office for the first time. We want them to walk in and feel like they are in the right place, to feel at home.

Most patients comment on how relaxing the environment is. In most cases, patients were sent most of the necessary paperwork to fill out in their leisure. When you arrive for the visit, there are just a few other forms to review and sign before the doctor sees you. Since we do not double book like most doctors, you are usually seen on your appointment time or shortly thereafter, unless your paperwork was not filled out prior to your appointment time. We set aside 30 minutes face to face with the doctor specifically for you. Generally, you will spend 40-45 minutes in the office.

The doctor will review your paperwork prior to seeing you in order to get an idea of what is going on with your health, will listen to you as you describe, in detail, what you are experiencing. Then, will go through your medical history and general health. An examination is performed that may include chiropractic, orthopedic, neurological, abdominal, blood pressure exams, pulse, calcium cuff pressure, zinc status, iodine status, and muscle response testing to check for stress on different areas of the body.

We may feel it imperative to perform galvanic skin response test that measures objectively the stress on 58 different meridian points on your hands and feet. Since we are ultimately looking for the cause of your health problems, we tend to be very thorough when it comes to our intake paperwork, our consultation, and our examination. You will have plenty of time for your questions. After the exam, the doctor, if necessary, may request some additional tests (may include x-rays, blood work, hair analysis, saliva hormone test, stool analysis) to be performed. If that is the case, the staff will make sure you have everything you need to get those done. We will then schedule you for a report of findings visit, which is generally just a day or two from your initial visit. This allows the doctor to review all of your information and determine what is going on with your health and formulate a custom treatment plan.

Dr. Howell Asks some important questions of interest to Houston Memorial residents - Chiropractor Houston Memorial Dr. Howell Asks...

How long does it take to form a bone spur?
Many who begin chiropractic care think their problem happened "last week when you bent over funny." But pictures of the spine tell a different story. Chiropractors know it can take your body years to deposit the calcium necessary to form a bone spur. It's your body's response to stress due to gravity or joint malfunction. And chiropractic care can help.
Are aches and pains good or bad?
While aches or pains may be unpleasant, they're merely warning signs. As a Houston Memorial chiropractor, I see this all the time. The pain is not the problem! It just means a limitation has been reached and something needs to change. That's when we get to work correcting the underlying cause.
